Bear Beginnings
Canterbury Bears was founded in 1979 by my late father, Modern British painter John Blackburn in response to a friend searching for a traditional bear for his grandmother.
He commissioned John to design and make the very first Canterbury Bear and the rest is history!
Honours Arrive
In 2016 our founder, John Blackburn was awarded an MBE for services to manufacturing and export in The Queen’s New Year’s Honours List.
Our Business today
Today, my mother Maude and I run our business together with a truly dedicated team. We continue to design and create beautiful hand-made English bears.
Bears are our passion, but other animals also add to the magic of what we do.
